Temple B’nai Shalom Hits the High Seas
Members and friends of Temple B’nai Shalom just returned from an 8 day cruise to Aruba, Curacao, and Grand Cayman. The group included 33 people who enjoyed activities on the ship as well as on land and then met together for dinner each evening. In addition, they participated in their own sea day activities including games and sing-alongs in a private lounge on the ship. Aruba and Curacao were particularly interesting as many enjoyed the beaches in Aruba and the oldest active

Lemon Sugar Tea Cookies.
Yes. My initial remarks upon tasting were, “crispy, chewy, amazing.” They are technically lemon cookies, but they merely allude to their name in this crispy-edged chewy cookie. With only hints of lemon extract and lemon zest, these big sugared roundies can be addictive. Lemon Sugar Tea Cookies Yield: 4 dozen 3” cookies Ingredients • ¾ cup butter • 1 cup white sugar • 1 egg • 2 tablespoons corn syrup • 1 ¼ teaspoons lemon extract • ½ tea. lemon zest, (optional)

Temple B’nai Shalom Celebrates a Flaming Hanukkah
Temple B’nai Shalom really knows how to celebrate Hanukkah. In December they had 35 members show up to light their own personal Menorahs as part of the Friday Night Service attended by close to 90 people. The overhead lights were shut off as each person lit their menorah at the same time. The sight was truly spectacular. The Hanukkah service was led by Cantor Mitch Martin, who has a gift for leading upbeat, stimulating services. This service was no exception. It was followed

Go ‘nuts’ for the almond cookies
The simple elegance of an extra-buttery almond cookie has been unfairly understated. The subtle flavors mix effortlessly on one’s tongue like a lovely accident. This delicacy was fashioned after the cookies they used to serve at “Mitzi’s,” (the owner’s name,) in Rock Hill, New York. Our family of five, at mother’s urgings, would descend upon the tiny restaurant on a regular basis to taste the only reasonable semblance of Chinese food within a 50-mile radius. Mitzi was
