Have you walked past the CVE Woodshop, peered in the window and felt the urge to learn how the tools and equipment you see in the shop are actually used? Well, here’s your chance!  For those of you that say “YES”, the CVE Woodcraft and DIY Club is once again offering CVE residents the very popular “Introduction to Woodworking” class in CVE’s Lifelong Learning Winter Session #2.

This class, led by a very experienced woodworker and career teacher, Steve Prince, will introduce students to the many tools and power machines in the shop used to measure, cut, shape, and bond wood. Participants will be introduced to a variety of different tools and power equipment that our members become proficient in using.  Proper and safe machine use will be demonstrated and samples of projects that can be made will be shown.

The one-hour class will be held weekly on Thursday mornings at 11 a.m. from Feb. 22nd through March 28th.  Registration opens on Jan 19th  and ends Feb 12th.  This class fills up quickly so sign up early.  If the class is full sign up anyway as we may add an additional class!

The Club is offering beginner, intermediate and advanced classes in Wood Bowl and Flower Vase making on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.   The ever-popular pen making class, where participants will learn how to make custom wood or acrylic pens, is scheduled for Tuesday mornings. Two sessions are planned.  A new Scroll Saw Art class is also being introduced and offered on Thursday mornings at 9:30 am.

In addition to conducting classes, the woodshop is open to club members working on their own projects on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The annual membership fee is $60.  Please direct your membership questions to Mel Weinzimer (cvewoodworking@gmail.com) or simply ask any of the instructors in the woodshop for information.

We look forward to welcoming new and current members and Lifelong Learning students in the shop during the upcoming Winter Session #2!
