The Russian Matryoshka Club will host two cultural events in May, offering residents an opportunity to experience Russian film and live performance at Le Club.
On May 2 at 6 p.m., the club will present a screening and discussion of the Russian film Uchilka/The Teacher at the Le Club Theater. The film centers on a tense classroom situation that unfolds into a dramatic hostage scenario. Screenwriter Ekaterina Asmus will attend and lead a post-film discussion. The film will be shown in Russian with English subtitles, and admission is free.
A second event is scheduled for May 23 at 6 p.m. in Rooms A and B of the Le Club Activity Center. The performance, titled So Many Springs in Our Life!, is a musical-theatrical presentation exploring the life and work of Alexander Vertinsky, a renowned figure in early 20th-century Russian chanson. The production features music and storytelling performed by Ekaterina Asmus and will be presented in Russian without translation. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased via Zelle.
The May events follow an April 9 nesting dolls decoration workshop led by club organizer Larissa Dyan, who shared the history and artistic styles of traditional Russian matryoshka dolls. Additional workshops are expected to return in October.
