Shattering Expectations: Discover Creativity and Community at the Glass Club
If you’ve ever dreamed of creating beautiful, handcrafted art or just want to try something new, the Glass Club is the perfect place to start. Here are ten reasons why you should join this vibrant and creative community:
First and foremost, you can create stunning art pieces, either by designing your own or following one of the many magnificent patterns available. The process takes place in a relaxing atmosphere that’s both calming and enjoyable—even with the occasional elevator music in the background.
Joining the club also means learning new skills like glass cutting, fusing, soldering, and grouting. Lessons are available, and experienced members are always willing to lend a hand. It’s easier than you think—you can do it!
For those with ambitious dreams, the Glass Club might even be your gateway to fame. Just ask the likes of Marc Chagall or Louis Tiffany, the stained-glass masters who turned their craft into an art form.
On a more personal level, you can create beautiful pieces to decorate your home or make stunning, thoughtful gifts for friends and loved ones. Your creations will be cherished, and who knows, you might even get a thank-you note.
The club also offers a great reason to get out of the house—whether it’s to take a break from your spouse, escape from endless TV marathons, or simply enjoy a change of scenery. It’s a fantastic way to socialize, meet nice people, and participate in a bilingual environment filled with group projects and workshops.
Best of all, your friends and family will marvel at your masterpieces, and your grandchildren might even think you’re a superhero. It’s a guaranteed ego boost. And if you’re worried about mishaps, don’t fret—the club provides free Band-Aids for those inevitable nicks and cuts.
The Glass Club operates out of the main clubhouse, where its fully equipped studios feature saws, grinders, kilns, and everything needed for most projects. Members provide their own hand tools, which are available for purchase both at the club and elsewhere. The club also stocks and sells glass supplies for members' convenience.
Run by a group of dedicated volunteers, the club is active year-round and welcomes members from diverse backgrounds, languages, and experiences. Two related hobbies are offered: stained glass and fused glass.
Stained glass, the traditional art form seen in church and synagogue windows, involves soldering pieces of glass together to create intricate designs. Fused glass, on the other hand, is a modern technique where glass pieces are fused in a kiln to form unique and colorful creations. Samples of both styles are on display in the studio.
New members are required to attend introductory lessons, which can be arranged through the Activities Office. For more information, stop by the studio or call Andrea at 339-927-0301.
The Glass Club is more than just an art studio—it’s a community, a creative outlet, and a place to discover hidden talents. Come see for yourself—you’ll be glad you did.
