The CVE Tennis Club’s final social and competitive tennis events of the season took place at the Clubhouse and Richmond tennis courts on March 9th, where a sea of green outfits and hats set the tone for an early celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
The day began with a delicious breakfast spread featuring munchkin donuts, croissants, lemon cake, a variety of fruits, and both hot and cold drinks. This gave all 90 attendees a chance to mingle and reconnect with fellow members they may not have seen in a while. Following breakfast, the games commenced.
While the Clubhouse courts buzzed with activity—players on court and many more waiting in the grandstand to rotate in—the matches kicked off with men’s and women’s doubles, followed by mixed doubles on all four courts. All players were randomly paired, giving everyone the opportunity to team up with and compete against players they might not typically encounter during their regular Club team play.
After the doubles matches, the fun games began. Each court hosted a different challenge designed to test both skill and luck. On one court, cones were spread out on the surface, and players tried to topple them with their shots. Another court had hoops laid out, with players aiming to land balls inside the rings. A third court featured a ping-pong-style relay, where teams had to keep the ball in play while rotating quickly at the service line. The final court offered a serve speed challenge, where each player estimated the speed of their serve in advance and then tested their accuracy. Several participants came within 1–2 km/h of their predictions. The top serve speeds were recorded at 140 km/h for men (winner: Frank O’Mara) and 85 km/h for women (winners: Marie-France Blais and Vicky Dosso).
Meanwhile, over at the Richmond courts, the A-Men’s Doubles Competition took place. This elite-level event featured 22 players battling through hard-fought matches under sunny skies. After six competitive rounds, Daniel Turgeon and Andre Brassard finished at the top, with identical results. Great fun and excellent tennis were enjoyed by all!
The Divas (Women’s Doubles) Competition was held earlier in the season, on January 11th, and saw Helene Delisle-Fiset emerge victorious. The event was expertly coordinated by Louise Chiasson and Nancy Brisson.
Prizes were awarded to all winners across the various events, and the champions of the A-Men’s and Divas competitions will have their names inscribed on the new perpetual trophies, which will be proudly displayed in the trophy case in the lower-level Clubhouse lobby. A spirited “Best Hat” competition added to the festivities, bringing smiles and laughter from fellow players.
After the awards ceremony, where winners were acknowledged and prizes distributed, a special lunch was served to the many volunteers who helped make the Jamboree a success.
