Century Village East Gains New Representation as Shanetzky Wins District 3 in Deerfield Beach Election

Century Village East and the rest of Deerfield Beach’s District 3 will see new leadership at City Hall following the results of the March 11, 2025, municipal election. Daniel Shanetzky has been elected as the new District 3 City Commissioner, winning 50.68% of the vote in a three-way race.

Shanetzky, a longtime Century Village East resident and civic leader, will succeed Commissioner Bernie Parness, who was term limited out from running again. Parness, a former mayor and commissioner since 2015, was widely known for his advocacy on senior issues and steady representation of CVE interests at the city level.

Shanetzky defeated two opponents—Philip Edward Bradley, who received 28.41% of the vote, and Karen A. Shelly, who earned 20.91%. The new commissioner will now represent a district that includes the entirety of Century Village East, one of the largest residential communities in Deerfield Beach.

The overall voter turnout across Broward County was low, with only 9.69% of registered voters participating. The Broward Supervisor of Elections cited a recent state law requiring voters to renew their mail ballot requests every two years as a likely factor in the decreased turnout.
