Village officials are urging Century Village East associations to take additional precautions when hiring iguana control services, following recent reports from residents who were alarmed by the sight of individuals carrying what appeared to be firearms.
According to officials, several residents have contacted the community after observing people walking through the property with what looked like guns. In each case, the individuals were hired iguana control workers using air guns or air rifles as part of their work.
To prevent confusion and unnecessary concern, officials are asking associations to clearly communicate with their residents in advance whenever iguana control services are scheduled. Letting residents know that workers may be present and carrying air-powered equipment can help avoid misunderstandings.
In addition, associations are being advised to ensure that any iguana control personnel they hire are clearly identifiable. This can include wearing uniforms or displaying visible identification so residents can easily recognize that they are authorized workers.
Officials are also emphasizing that iguana control workers should remain only on the property of the association that hired them. They should not enter other buildings or areas where residents have not been notified of their presence.
Village leaders say these steps are intended to maintain safety, reduce unnecessary alarm, and ensure that all residents are properly informed when this type of work is taking place.
