Blanche Weinberg Obituary

Blanche Weinberg, a CVE resident for more than 25 years, died peacefully on June 27th, not long after her 101st birthday. 

Blanche was married for 26 years to her first husband, Paul Kahn, who was among the first violinists in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.  She was married to her second husband, Jerome Weinberg, for 30 years. After Jerome’s death, her final partner in life—as well as in bridge—was Sudhakar Bhatt, who passed away in their CVE condo in 2022. 

Blanche loved her family beyond all measure. To the end, she enjoyed keeping in touch with her daughters, Debby and Vivian, sharing their joys and comforting them in their sorrows. 

Blanche also had close ties to her neighbors in Farnham N, especially Dori Insalaco. Dori and Blanche became friends in recent years, sharing stories and delighting in each other’s company. Dori supported and cared for Blanche in her final weeks, even creating a playlist of violin music that visibly moved Blanche even after she had lost the power to speak.

CVE residents Jim and Jill Hicks were also close to Blanche, often bringing dinner to her and Dori, with card games to follow.

Blanche loved the arts as well, especially music. She played violin beautifully, serving as concertmaster of the Century Village Symphony Orchestra for many years. She also gave weekly lessons and enjoyed private sessions with fellow musicians. Despite failing sight and hearing, she loved card games, especially bridge and Skip-Bo.

She was fiercely independent and strong. She was not spared the falls and broken bones of old age, but she always did her rehab zealously and returned to life “on her own“ in her condo, with just occasional help from a housekeeper. However, even she could not recover from a massive stroke two weeks before her death.

Blanche will long be remembered and missed by her family and her many friends at CVE.
