Current System is Working

I found both articles, Director Shortage Plague Village and Is It Time to Rethink How Village Elections Are Held, interesting. I believe that if large areas like Durham, Newport and Oakridge don’t have the interest to find candidates to run as COOCVE directors, then the owners located there will probably not have the interest to vote in a general election.

From my observation, the individuals who volunteer as COOCVE directors have a keen interest in the management of the village. The open forum held each January where the COOCVE, CenClub and MM candidates are invited to share their ideas and experiences is open to the entire village. Unfortunately, this forum is often dismally attended. This raises the question, is the attendance low because only COOCVE directors can vote, or is the low attendance due to apathy by the owners?

Potentially, the low attendance is caused by neither of the aforementioned reasons. It could be that the majority of owners are happy with the current organization and the work being done by CenClub and MM. As younger people (55+) move into the village, they will bring with them a better knowledge of computers, and the computer skill set will expand to more owners.

Currently, I believe there needs to be more education provided to the entire village for what each organization is responsible. I was extremely happy to see the COOCVE article on pages 12 and 13 of the November Reporter. This is a great start and this information needs to be included in every Reporter edition. I have been an owner since 2011 and I would have appreciated this information earlier in our ownership.

In a few years, electronic voting by the entire village could be addressed again, but for now, I believe the current system is working. Thank you COOCVE, CenClub and MM for the excellent work done to help make our community, and by extension, our retirement, awesome!
