EXCLUSIVE

For years, residents of Berkshire B have been forced to look at the same sight each time they left their building: a decaying brown car with flat tires and rust eating away at its body. Parked in the outside the building, the vehicle became one of the most visible and persistent eyesores in Century Village East.

Now, after years of frustration, the long-abandoned car may finally be on its way out.

At the end of last month, Deerfield Beach City Commissioner Daniel Shinetsky personally contacted the city’s Code Enforcement office to demand action. Inspectors arrived soon after and issued a citation to the vehicle’s owner, Berkshire B resident Gary Urian, whose deteriorating car has been a source of complaints among neighbors.

The citation notes that city code prohibits junked or abandoned vehicles from being left on public or private property. Urian has been ordered to remove the car immediately or face escalating legal action, including fines and the possibility that the car will be towed away at his expense.

For residents of Berkshire B and the surrounding area, the enforcement action comes as a relief.

While the car hasn’t yet been removed, city officials say the process is underway, giving neighbors new hope that a long-standing blemish on their community will soon be gone.
