Scammers are getting more aggressive in targeting older residents with pop-ups, phone calls, and in-person visits. Here are some common red flags to watch out for:

• Requests for gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency to resolve a problem

• Pop-up warnings on your computer or iPad directing you to call a phone number

• Callers who pressure you to act immediately or threaten consequences if you do not comply

• Strangers arriving at your home claiming to represent a bank or government agency

• Anyone asking for your ATM card, PIN, or personal account information

• Offers that sound “too good to be true,” such as easy money or guaranteed investments

If you suspect you are being scammed, hang up, close the computer window, and call the Broward Sheriff’s Office at 954-764-HELP (954-764-4357).
