In Memoriam Gene Goldman

Gene Goldman’s a man I did not know for long.

We met on a ship, just like in a song.

I loved his vast wit and his great zest for life,

and his obvious love for his wonderful wife.

We connected at trivia games in the lounge

and soon spent together what time we could scrounge.

When Doris and Gene would go on a trip

They’d tell all their adventures when back on the ship.

We dine and we’d chat or we’d go to a show.

On shipboard there’s choices. You just never know.

And since that great meeting whenever we can

we made time to go visit this wonderful man.

and his wonderful wife, who kept him line —

that’s how we were sure he was doing just fine.

We did not have enough time to spend with the pair.

When we heard he was sick it was with some despair

And now we have lost him. We’ll still sing and play

because we know well that he’d want it that way.

But our cruises will lack a bit of the old luster

because he’s not there. We’ll sure miss you, buster.

Gene is gone away

to another, longer cruise

visiting the stars
