Obit for Cathy Carter

CVE Reporter

Cathy “CC” Carter passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, at the age of 95. Born Donna Jean Glasser in Canton, Ohio, she later adopted the stage name by which she was known throughout her life. A gifted singer, actor, and dancer, her career in entertainment spanned nightclubs, Broadway musicals, television, film, and radio.

She performed as Anita in the Hawaiian production of West Side Story and as Mary Magdalene in the Broadway touring company of Jesus Christ Superstar. For seven years, she was the female vocalist with the Harry James Band. Cathy also opened for Nat King Cole and was sought after for studio work in Los Angeles, where she recorded with Nelson Riddle and served as a background vocalist for Frank Sinatra. In a 1967 review, an entertainment critic wrote: “Cathy sings with warmth, feeling, and sincerity, which most definitely projects her inherent ability to mold each and every song into an almost total recall of experiences that will excite any audience.”

Following her entertainment career, she worked as an interior designer, real estate agent, and office manager. A strong, kind, beautiful, and independent woman, she made countless friends over the course of her long life. May she rejoice in being reunited with loved ones who preceded her in passing, and may her beautiful spirit continue to sing in God’s presence and in the hearts of all who loved her. She will be greatly missed.

Cathy is survived by her two sons, Terry Walker (Barbara Moericke) and Stephen Longo (Lisa Coffey); her sister, Carol Fleishour; half-sisters Nancy Hall Kirven, Brenda Hall Frazier, and Connie Glasser Roudebush; two granddaughters; four great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, one sister, and one grandson.

A celebration of her life will be held in the spring in Florida. In the meantime, condolences may be sent to CC’s family at 20450 Holyoke Ave, Lakeville, MN 55044.
