Temple B’nai Shalom really knows how to celebrate Hanukkah. In December they had 35 members show up to light their own personal Menorahs as part of the Friday Night Service attended by close to 90 people. The overhead lights were shut off as each person lit their menorah at the same time. The sight was truly spectacular.
The Hanukkah service was led by Cantor Mitch Martin, who has a gift for leading upbeat, stimulating services. This service was no exception. It was followed by an onegincluding potato latkes for everyone as well as coffee, tea, and snacks with dreidels and Hanukkah gelt available as well,
B’nai Shalom celebrates every major holiday. They have a well-attended community Passover Seder, a costumed Purim Service, and a community Tu B’Shevat Seder as well as observing Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and other religious holidays and festivals.
B’nai Shalom meets for Shabbat Services every Friday night at 7:30 PM in the Activity Center. The upbeat services led by Cantor Mitch Martin, are followed by an oneg which gives participants an opportunity to mingle and schmooze over coffee and cake. There are monthly Lunch and Learn sessions where discussions on stimulating topics of interest (the Middle East, Joys of Yiddish, Pirchei Avot) are preceded by bagels and coffee
