Temple B’nai Shalom Celebrates Purim

Temple B’nai Shalom celebrated the festive holiday of Purim at services on Friday evening, March 14th. There was a crowd of roughly 50 people in attendance. Many congregants and attendees wore costumes and masks.  Graggers (noisemakers) were distributed.

Purim is a holiday on which we read the Megillah of Esther, which explains the historical story that happened long ago in Shushan.  Cantor Mitch Martin found a wonderful, modern English translation of the story.  Congregants had the opportunity to participate and read this Megillah.  Esther, the Queen, saved the Jewish people from Haman, who wanted to annihilate them; every time his name is read, they booed and made noise with the graggers. This fun service was followed by schmoozing and noshing hamentash at the Oneg Shabbat.

The Megillah of Ruth will be read for Shavuot, the holiday signifying when G-d gave Moses the Ten Commandments. Temple B’nai Shalom will celebrate on Friday evening, May 30th at 7:30 in Le Club Activity Center.  All are welcome to join.

Temple B’nai Shalom continues to provide a welcoming for any Jew in the area. In addition to the extensive holiday services, they go to local Broadway style shows, go on cruises, hold monthly bagel munch and learn sessions and have comedy and movie nights in addition to weekly Friday night religious services in the Activity Center.

Contact Paul Scheiner at (630) 452-1131 for more information on the Synagogue, check out their webpage at templebnaishalom.org or just show up at the Activity Center on Friday night at 7:30 PM.
