For those new to CVE please come in to browse or join our library, located in the Clubhouse lower-level across from the Billiard room. Closed on Monday, May 25th, Memorial Day.
With a CVE ID, you may borrow one of our 5,000+ holdings, read newspapers, or shop in our Boutique. If you cannot find a book, ask a Library volunteer for assistance. They can check our collection. If we have the book, they will let you know where to find it on our shelves. We have two types of circulation.
Reserved Circulation contains our newest books, which are constantly arriving. Becoming a Friend of the Library for an annual $3 donation will allow you to borrow these new books. A Friend may also waitlist-reserve a book currently borrowed. Ask a Reservist how this works. Once interest in a new book diminishes it is placed in Regular Circulation. We have both regular print and large print books. Kindly look at the listings below for the new regular print books.
How do we obtain new books? Through funds raised by our donated items. We have cards, puzzles, artwork, jewelry, etc. Neither CenClub nor Master Management fund the purchase of our new library books. However, we would like to thank the CenClub for ordering our daily newspapers, New York Times, Wall Street Journal and the Sun-Sentinel. We appreciate this very much.
The library accepts donations of artwork of any media, puzzles, boutique items, as well as fiction books written in the last 10 years, and non-fiction books in good condition. Your support and assistance for the purchase of new books for the library is greatly appreciated.
A book drop box, to the left of the library entrance is available for use when the library is closed to return and/or donate books.
Volunteers staff the library in 2-hour shifts. Would you consider helping to staff the library? Please leave contact information at the library. If you are not contacted, please come in or call at (954) 481-2898 ext. 9.

The Lost Apothecary
Written by Sarah Penner
It’s hard to believe that this is Sarah Penner’s first novel. What an excellent writer for such a complex mystery, historical novel. I thoroughly enjoyed the story including going back and forth from 1791 to the present day. It is one of those stories that is hard to put down. I usually read every morning and evening before bed. This novel had me reading it morning, noon and night.
Takes place in 18th Century London. There was a secret apothecary shop catering to an unusual group of women. Nella, the shopkeeper, learned to mix herbs, leaves, beetles and more from her mother. Some of these potions healed and some did fatal damage.
When a very young girl comes to her shop for a purchase, Nella is quite taken aback. Most who buy her potions are married women who are seeking relief from their spouses many abuses.
Nella is intrigued that Eliza Fanning, 12 years old, was sent by her mistress to buy a specific potion. Eliza knew what it would do and this surprised Nella that someone would put a young girl on this encounter. The present time scene is an interesting couple celebrating their 10th Anniversary but because of an illicit affair the couple go to London on different times and what happens to them is almost unbelievable. Don’t want to give too much of this riveting and original novel away but know it is one story you will never forget. I definitely recommend this novel to all who love a mystery and a little of the past century intriguing happenings. Thank you to one of our library volunteers, Mark Silverman, for suggesting I read this unforgettable novel.
