The CVE Tennis Club is concluding its season at the end of April following several months of tournaments, league play, and group activities.

On February 21, the CVE Tennis Open was held across 11 courts from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with 48 players selected from six teams competing under a format in which each team faced every other team across five sets. Team Topspin, consisting of Daniel Turgeon, Alan Kutler, Hélène Fiset, Jean-Pierre Joly, and André Brassard, won the tournament. The event concluded with a lunch for participants.

Also on February 21, 34 players took part in the Valentine DIVAS Tournament. Suzanne Blais finished in first place, followed by Gail Midanik in second. Participants later gathered at the Century Diner.

The club’s Ladder Program, organized by Mel Weinzimer, ran from November through March in women’s, men’s, and mixed doubles divisions. In the men’s final, Rene Perise and Francois Rosa defeated Andre Brassard and Michel Picard by scores of 6-3 and 6-4. In the women’s final, Elyse Boisvert and Helene Fiset defeated Claudette Bouchard and Louise Cote by scores of 6-2 and 6-4. The mixed doubles final was postponed due to rain.

On March 19, three busloads of members traveled to Hard Rock Stadium for a day trip to the Miami Open.

As the season comes to a close, the summer tennis league is ready to begin.  It starts April 30 and runs through October 31 on the Richmond tennis courts.  Summer league play is seven days per week from 7:30am to 9:15am.  Players are asked to bring two cans of balls at the start of the season. Call Larry at 508-259-5381 for more information.
