The Russian Matryoshka Club invites CVE residents to celebrate International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room GPA at the Clubhouse. The gathering will feature a Women’s Circle led by Larissa Dyan and will include a Peace Meditation and Healing Dance in honor of womanhood and shared feminine energy.

International Women’s Day, widely celebrated in Russia, is one of the country’s most beloved holidays. Often compared to a combination of Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, it is a day when women are honored with flowers and heartfelt appreciation. Although the holiday originated in Chicago in 1908, it is not widely observed in the United States.

The March celebration follows the club’s February 4 poetry meeting, which focused on the life and works of Russian-American poet Joseph Brodsky. Russian-speaking participants reflected on his poetry in an educational and soulful program. Ekaterina Asmus, a Russian actress, singer, playwright, and film director, performed popular songs based on Brodsky’s poetry, earning enthusiastic applause from the audience. She is expected to return for future presentations.

Founded by Larissa Dyan, the Russian Matryoshka Club is dedicated to preserving and sharing the richness of Russian culture with both Russian- and English-speaking residents. The matryoshka, or nesting doll, remains a cherished symbol of that culture, often depicted as a beautiful woman, making International Women’s Day a fitting occasion for celebration.

Residents who attended the club’s February 25 screening of “Doctor Zhivago” and would like to share memories connected to the film are encouraged to email Larissa at Russianmatryoshkaclub@gmail.com. Those interested in Russian history and cultural events may also contact her to be added to the club’s mailing list or call 774-275-4307 for more information.
